MainCo is responsible for the asset maintenance and annual works (preventive and reactive maintenance, and renewals) of the entire Melbourne metropolitan broad gauge railway network.
A comprehensive network - of railway infrastructure is maintained and renewed by MainCo including:
Track consisting of rail, sleepers, ballast, drainage systems, points and crossings.
Electrical systems including the 1500 volt DC overhead supply catenaries, its supporting structures and the substations for transforming and feeding this supply to the network.
Signal systems including crossing protection equipment (flashing lights, boom barriers, pedestrian booms and gates).
Communications systems including the central train control facility (Metrol) computers, passenger information display system.
Structures and Facilities including Rail bridges, tunnels, lifts, excalators and train stations.
MainCo also manage the maintenance of the Comeng, Hitachi and Xtrapolis trains.
